When Is the Best Time for AC Replacement?

analog-clock-face

How has that air conditioner of yours been handling the heat of the summer? Are you pleased with its performance and efficiency? Or are you perhaps thinking that you’re going to need a new air conditioner sometime in the not-too-distant future?

When you start to consider the process of getting your air conditioner replaced, there are probably a lot of questions on your mind. One of the biggest questions we get asked is when the best time for AC replacement is. We’ll give you some information, so you can decide what’s best for you. Don’t put off AC replacement in Toms River, NJ any longer than necessary.

Weather Conditions

The extremes of summer and winter weather might not be the most comfortable times for AC replacement. During summer, having to shut down your air conditioner, perhaps for up to eight hours, is not a pleasant prospect. During winter, having doors open and installation techs in and out can be a hassle and cause a chill.

It is definitely possible to have your air conditioner replaced at these times. You might decide that one sounds better than the other to you personally. Or, perhaps, the idea of a spring or fall AC installation is more appealing. During these seasons, the milder temperatures mean that you won’t be particularly inconvenienced by the lack of AC or by outdoor air coming in.

Before It Becomes an Emergency

Our most important advice when it comes to selecting a time for AC replacement is not to wait until the air conditioner has completely broken down. This is most likely to happen during a high-use period of time like a heat wave, and you will quickly find yourself unpleasantly overheated or possibly even unsafe in those conditions.

To avoid ending up in this situation, you should plan your air conditioning replacement before you think it’s urgently necessary. This means assessing the state of your air conditioner regularly. And right now, when you’ve been using it a great deal for the past few months, is the perfect time to make an assessment.

Signs that Your Air Conditioner Is Ready for Retirement

If your AC system has had routine maintenance done every year, it is likely to keep running well for ten years, perhaps even twelve or thirteen. Without maintenance, it might only run for six or eight years. No matter how well you care for the system, at a certain point, routine maintenance just won’t quite do the trick anymore. Your system’s efficiency and effectiveness will drop.

Rising electric bills despite regular AC maintenance, uneven or insufficient cooling, increasingly frequent minor repair needs, or very costly major repair needs are indicators that an old air conditioner has reached the end.

Start looking into your new AC options. There are some amazing new high-efficiency systems available now. We’d be delighted to discuss them with you and help you plan your AC replacement.
